Doctoral Degree Requirements
1. The credits necessary for completing the Ph.D. course shall be at least 36 credits, excluding those obtained from the master’s course.
From freshmen in the first semester of 2024, credits necessary for completing the Ph.D. course shall be at least 30 credits, excluding those obtained from the master’s course.
Meanwhile, a total of 6 thesis research credits (3 credits each) must be completed during the final two semesters immediately before completion, and these credits are not included in the above curriculum credits.
2. As the has been changed from a compulsory course to a major elective course, all students must take a or a major recommendation course (3 credits) other than their major starting from the first semester of 2015.
3. Ph.D. students can submit their Ph.D. thesis if they earn a certain amount of credit, pass the thesis submission qualification test, and publish a Ph.D. thesis preparation plan.
4. As a condition for completing a doctorate degree, one or more papers as the first author (or corresponding author) must be published in the SCIE/SSCI Register (including the SCI Register before January 2, 2020) after admission to this school. However, academic journals must have passed and certified by the Academic Committee, and the presenter must submit a separate printed copy by the time the thesis is published. However, if printing is delayed, it can be replaced with the final acceptance form for thesis publication. However, in the case of Health Care Management and Policy major and Public Health major (Health Population major), at least one paper must be published as the first author (including the corresponding author) on the SCIE/SSCI register (including the previous SCI register on January 2, 2020) or two papers must be published as the first author or corresponding author in Korea.
In principle, the master’s and doctorate courses shall be integrated, and a master’s degree obtained from an integrated curriculum or special graduate school may be recognized as a PhD completion credit up to 12 credits, if those credits were obtained in excess of the completion standard.
1. Students who did not graduate from the GSPH should take core master’s courses (except for Community Health Field Training) and subjects commended by their thesis advisor. Credits for these courses are included as part of the 36 credits.
2. Some of the persons falling under the conditions above may be reduced or exempted in prior course requirements based on the student’s educational background and experience. Those may be exempted from completion of this course after deliberation by the academic committee when submitting an application with the recommendation of an advisor. In such cases, the scope of prior course exemption shall be limited to within 50%.
Exception: Students are exempt if they obtain their thesis advisor’s permission to not take the courses.
In consideration of information such as educational background and career records, the academic committee can approve this case as well.
1. If you are a full-time student: Maximum 12 credits
Full-time students have no job and study five days a week at school.
